Embark on a journey ⏤ of embodied remembrance through pregnancy, birth & postpartum.

A baby sitting on his mother's chest, both smiling inside a cozy room with wood paneling and a window with a view of trees.

welcome.

My name is Alana (she/her).

I am a yoga teacher, birthkeeper | doula, writer, community facilitator, and new mom based in Durango, Colorado.

My own journey to a felt sense of Self began with my initiation into motherhood as I navigated the season of being stretched - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

This deep dive into embodiment ultimately brought me home. And by home, I mean to my body. To a felt sense that is experienced somatically 〰 deeply 〰 and with great reverence.

My hope is to aid others in this same journey of coming home during life’s greatest seasons of growth.

Disembodied cultures announce only the birth of a child. Embodied cultures announce the arrival of a newborn baby, as well as a newly born parent.

What is embodiment?

Rolling hills covered in dry grass and shrubs under a partly cloudy sky, with distant mountains in the background.

It’s not woo woo. it’s your body’s innate wisdom.

Embodiment is a state of being in which we are attuned to our body’s physical sensations and feelings. 80% of information travels from the body to the brain, with only 20% traveling from the brain to the body. There is immense wisdom held within the cells of our body!

As parents and birthing people, we will have many moments of needing to listen to this internal wisdom as we navigate the twists and turns of pregnancy & parenthood. Learning what feels good from what doesn’t and how to differentiate between a yes and a no are all integral parts of parenting.

The ability to listen to our bodies first requires that we feel safe in our bodies. In modern day society, many of us lack this sense of safety due to cultural conditioning, trauma, and low-nurture. Feeling safe in our bodies to explore our changing internal states, sensations, and emotions is necessary for feeling at home in our bodies. Somatic practices aid in this journey of re-discovery and will continue to serve you in the ever-evolving adventure of parenthood.
