  • Postpartum is a sacred window of time in which we welcome the arrival of a newborn baby and a newly-born parent. The process of matrescence has altered a birthing parent’s physiology and psyschology and the transformation is filled with immense joy, grief, rage, frustration, confusion, and more. All at the same time.

Support focuses on nourishing the birthing parent and supporting the family unit during this new season of life. Support includes nourishing meals, emotional & physical support (think birth story listening and herbal baths), light home assistance, and referrals/resources aplenty.

  • A nesting ceremony begins with a blessing ceremony for the birthing parent to acknowledge the threshold they are soon to step through, while being held within the container of community. In a potluck style of affair, we’ll culminate the ceremony with a shared meal and all of your favorite people are asked to bring a dish you can freeze and eat after birth. It is equal parts celebration and preparation for the key pillar of postpartum care!

Sacred Window

"The first 40 days will impact the next 40 years to come"

The what

Western culture has long-forgotten the importance of early postpartum, for both the newly-born birthing parent and the newborn baby. We have normalized low-nurture, prioritized hyper independence, and undervalued care labor to the detriment of young families (so much so that the U.S. General Surgeon issued a State of Emergency for young families).

Eastern traditions, including the ancient Indian science of Ayurveda, acknowledge and celebrate the sacredness of this window by prioritizing support for new families with the intention of building life-long health and well-being for generations to come.

The why

It is believed in Ayurveda that the initial 42 days post birth are an extraordinarily delicate time as birthing parents and babies undergo a radical transformation on the psycho-phsyiologic level. If a birthing parent is properly nourished and loved, they are then able to offer that same level of love and nourishment to their new baby.

Modern day neuroscience is just beginning to arrive at the same conclusion that many Eastern traditions did many moons ago: postpartum matters. It matters not only to the health of the new parent and newborn baby but also to all future generations to come. In fact, the science is showing that a supported and nourished postpartum period has the power to build generational resilience and heal ancestral trauma.

The How

Postpartum care begins in pregnancy: a time to both learn and unlearn our assumptions about early postpartum so that we may better prepare our village for the sacred window ahead. By reading evidence-based resources, delving into them through conversation, and integrating them through embodiment practices, we will build all four pillars of postpartum care: support, nutrition, rest, and loving touch.
